Sydney Beaches Close After Whale Carcass Washes Up

Imagine you plan a fun day at the ocean, but the gates are shut. Today, officials had to close two popular places in Sydney. People cannot go swim or surf at Coogee and Maroubra right now. A young whale died in the water and landed on big rocks near the shore. Local officials say it is not safe for people to go into the sea today.

When a dead whale sits on a rock near the coast, it creates big problems for the city. First, the body of the animal is very big and heavy, making it hard for anyone to move. Second, rough waves hit the coast hard today, so workers cannot get close to the site. The water moves fast, and the slippery stone makes walking dangerous for every rescue team on duty. Also, dead animals in the ocean can pull big sharks toward the beach. Sharks look for food in the water, so swimmer safety becomes a major concern for guards. Lifeguards put up red flags and warning signs along the sand so everyone stays out of the cold water. They want to keep all visitors away until the site is clean and peaceful again.

Authorities are watching the tide to see when they can safely clean up the area. For now, you should pick another spot for your afternoon walk or swim. Local workers plan to resume their heavy work as soon as the sea calms down.
