Dream Jobs and Career Development

Hello and welcome to Real Easy English. This is a podcast where we have real conversations in easy English to help you learn. I'm Georgie and I'm Neil. Today we are talking about dream jobs and what we wanted to be when we were children. When I was a child, I wanted to be a princess because I thought it would be a fun and exciting job, but then I realized it wasn't a realistic option. Then I wanted to be a pop star because I loved singing and performing in front of my parents, and I thought it would be a great way to express myself and showcase my talents.

Neil wanted to be a professional sportsman or a rock star because he enjoyed playing sports and music, and he thought it would be a great way to make a living doing something he loved. But we are not doing those jobs now. Instead, Neil decided to become an English teacher so he could travel and live in foreign countries, and I wanted to live abroad too because I wanted to experience different cultures and meet new people. We are happy with our jobs now because we can help people learn English and have a nice team at work. We can describe something like a job as 'important to' us, and we can talk about our dream jobs using the structure 'when I was younger, I wanted to be...'

In conclusion, it's useful to have a job that you enjoy and that allows you to do what is important to you. If we didn't have to worry about money, Neil would like to be a rock star and I would like to be a travel photographer because we both love music and taking pictures. We hope you liked our conversation and we will talk to you again soon. We also talked about how to use conditionals to talk about our dream jobs, such as 'if I could do any job, I would be a travel photographer'. This is a useful structure to use when talking about your dream jobs. Additionally, we discussed the importance of having a supportive team at work and how it can make a big difference in our job satisfaction. We also touched on the idea of pursuing our passions and making them a reality, even if it's not in the classical sense of our dream job.
