The Nubian traders were known for selling luxury goods such as gold, ivory, and ebony. They also sold exotic animals like wildcats, monkeys, elephants, and giraffes. These traders were very skilled and could sell their goods to many people in the Circus Maximus of Rome. The kingdom of Kush was a powerful kingdom that existed for many centuries and coexisted with many foreign dynasties.
The Kushites were led by a strong queen named Queen Amanirenas. She helped the Kushites win a war against the Romans in the 1st century BC. The Kushites were able to assert their sovereignty against the Roman legions and established the city of Aswan as the border between them and the Roman Empire. However, as the Roman Empire grew, it was able to monopolize the Mediterranean trade, greatly reducing the Nubians' influence in that trading node.
The kingdom of Aksum also started to expand and took some of the Kushite territory, pushing the Nubians out of the lucrative Red Sea trade. With Kush in terminal decline, the Aksumites would launch a full-scale invasion in around 350 AD, resulting in the final collapse of the ancient kingdom. The Nubians were very good traders, but they were not able to compete with the Roman Empire and the kingdom of Aksum.
