Unilever delays Magnum demerger amid US shutdown

Unilever owns the popular Magnum ice cream brand. The company planned a demerger to turn the ice cream unit into a separate business. A U.S. shutdown of the government has pushed the plan back.

The shutdown means many federal workers are not on the job. Because of this impasse, the paperwork needed for the spin‑off cannot be finished. The delay makes it hard for Unilever to move forward. Consumers who love Magnum may see the same packaging and price for now, but the company cannot launch the new structure. The disruption also affects investors who watch the impact on share prices. Unilever said it will wait until the government reopens before filing the required documents. The government decision is outside the company’s control, but the firm hopes the pause will be short.

When the U.S. government starts working again, Unilever expects to file the paperwork and complete the demerger. Until then, the ice cream will stay part of the larger group, and shoppers will keep buying Magnum as usual.
