New York City History

New York is a big city with a big harbor. It is called the Big Apple, but it is also a big seaport. A long time ago, the Lenape Native Americans lived here. Then, a man named Henry Hudson came to the city in 1609. He sailed up the rivers and saw the Atlantic Ocean. The Dutch West India Company built a settlement called New Amsterdam. It was a beautiful place with many fish and oysters.

The city was very busy. There were many ships coming and going. People spoke many languages and did many business deals. The city was very mercantile, which means it was good for trade. The finance and communication systems were also very good. Many people came to the city from all over the world, and it became a very cultural place.

Today, New York is a very important city. It is a place where America meets the world. The city is very globalized, which means it is connected to many other countries. The city is a good example of how people can coexist together. We should be proud of our city and look to the future.
